Product Description:

Qualtech Products Industry Bulk Density Meter is a precision Bulk Density Volumeter to determine the Bulk Density and the Apparent Density of loose sample products and loose sample materials including metal powders, chemical powders, pharmaceutical powders, food powders, chips, fibers, flakes and related samples.

To measure the Bulk Density and the Apparent Density the sample is added into the specified precision engineered measuring Cylinder and compressed with a specified precision engineered Plunger. Then the  density is measured and calculated by dividing the mass of the sample by the known volume of the cylinder.

This Bulk Density Volumeter Method C is a professional laboratory density test instrument to efficiently measure the density and the specific gravity of loose sample materials including carbon powder, fiber powder, cosmetic powder, cement powder, powdered food, powdered drying agents, metal dust and metal powder and related materials.

This professional Bulk Density Meter is designed and engineered offering the newest design in accordance with ASTM D1895 Method C, a precision engineered Cylinder with a volume of 1000m³ and a precision engineered Plunger with a specified Test Load, integrated Level, adjustable Leveling Feet, a precision engineered Stand, made of high quality materials, user-friendly application, user-friendly sample handling, high accuracy and high precision, an ergonomic design, reliable performance, longevity and much more.

This Bulk Density Volumeter ASTM D1895 Method C is engineered of high quality stainless steel and is precision engineered to ensure high accuracy and high repeatability of your sample tests.

This professional Bulk Density Volumeter ASTM D1895 Method C is designed and engineered in accordance with international test standards including:

Bulk Density Meter ASTM D1895 Method C - Precision Bulk Density Analysis:

ASTM D1895 Method C is designed for determining the apparent (bulk) density of plastic materials that cannot be poured through a funnel—such as flakes, fibers, coarse regrind, or irregularly shaped particles. The method measures how these materials pack under light compression within a standardized cylinder using a weighted plunger.

Apparatus

  • QPI‑BDM1800C Bulk Density Meter, engineered in accordance with ASTM D1895 Method C.

    • Graduated cylinder: 1000 cm³ capacity, precision‑machined stainless steel with clear volume markings.

    • Plunger assembly: lightweight stainless‑steel plunger with flat circular face and guided stem for smooth vertical movement.

    • Support frame: rigid alignment between cylinder and plunger to ensure uniform compression.

    • Base platform: stable, adjustable feet for leveling.

  • Analytical balance: resolution ± 0.01 g.

  • Sample handling tools: scoop, spatula, and brush for cleaning between tests.

Principle of Operation

The sample is placed into the 1000 cm³ cylinder without vibration or compaction. A light plunger is then lowered onto the surface to apply a consistent, minimal compressive force. The mass of the material occupying the known volume is measured to determine its apparent density.

Test Procedure

1. Preparation

  • Verify that the QPI‑BDM1800C is clean, dry, and properly leveled.

  • Confirm that the plunger moves freely and that the cylinder is correctly seated.

2. Sample Conditioning

  • Bring the sample to ambient laboratory temperature (typically 23 ± 2 °C).

  • Break up any large agglomerates or clumps without altering particle geometry.

3. Filling the Cylinder

  • Gently pour the sample into the cylinder until it slightly overfills.

  • Avoid vibration, tapping, or compaction during filling.

  • Level the surface roughly with a straight edge.

4. Applying the Plunger

  • Lower the plunger slowly until its flat face just contacts the sample surface.

  • Allow the plunger to rest under its own weight—do not apply additional force.

  • Wait a few seconds for the material to settle naturally under gravity.

5. Leveling and Weighing

  • Remove the plunger carefully to avoid disturbing the sample.

  • Strike off any excess material flush with the cylinder rim.

  • Weigh the filled cylinder to the nearest 0.01 g.

  • Subtract the mass of the empty cylinder to obtain the net sample mass.

6. Calculation

Bulk Density (g/cm³) = Net Sample Mass (g) / 1000 cm³

Report results to three significant figures.

7. Repeatability

  • Perform at least three determinations.

  • Average the results; variation should not exceed ± 1 %.

Engineering Notes

  • Method C is ideal for non‑pourable materials such as flakes, fibers, coarse regrind, and irregular chips.

  • The QPI‑BDM1800C’s guided plunger ensures uniform compression and repeatable packing behavior.

  • Cleaning between tests prevents cross‑contamination and maintains dimensional accuracy.

  • Stainless‑steel construction provides mechanical stability and corrosion resistance for long‑term laboratory use.

Result Interpretation

The measured bulk density represents the packing efficiency of the material under light compression. It is useful for:

  • Evaluating feed consistency in extrusion and molding processes.

  • Comparing recycled and virgin material packing behavior.

  • Quality control of flake or fiber morphology.

  • Process optimization for blending and dosing systems.
